PORT Adelaide defender Matthew Broadbent's wretched luck with injury has continued after he was ruled out for the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his right foot.

The 27-year-old hasn't played a senior game this year after having two operations on his right ankle.

He played his second game of the season in the SANFL last Sunday before rolling his left ankle in the last quarter.

However, a stress fracture in the first toe of his right foot wasn't discovered until after the game.

"Matthew developed mid-foot soreness from the game on the weekend and was found to have a developing stress fracture in his first toe," Port Adelaide's head of high performance Ian McKeown said.

"He will be off his legs for an indefinite period of time to allow the bone to heal before commencing running again, so unfortunately he will not be taking any further part in the season."

Broadbent has played 161 games for the Power since making his debut in 2009.

The fourth-placed Power will aim for their sixth straight win when they take on Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

The Power are also without key defender Tom Jonas for the next four to six weeks with a knee injury.

Small forward Sam Gray (ankle) and running defender Jasper Pittard (hamstring tightness) trained on Thursday as they bid to return after missing last week's win over St Kilda.

"Both ran today and both were out there moving pretty well," Power coach Ken Hinkley said.

"It's our first day back today, so we'll see what they look like on Friday, but at this stage I'd be very hopeful that Sam Gray certainly would be available."

Winger Jared Polec will play his 100th game for the Power, but he is yet to sign a contract for next year.

Polec was the fifth overall pick by Brisbane in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, playing 16 games in three seasons with the Lions before requesting a trade back to South Australia at the end of 2013.

"They're negotiating, I'd imagine, between him and the club, and that would be quite normal," Hinkley said.

"As I've said all along with all the boys, they like to stay at Port more often than not, that's not an issue and Jared's no different.

"He didn't come back to Adelaide from Brisbane (to leave), and I hopefully expect Jared will still be at Port Adelaide next year."
