Not much good news on the VFL front either with Springvale losing badly to the lowly ranked Essendon side. Justin Plapp was strapped and ready to play @ Shepley Oval, Dandenong before getting the late call up to replace the injured Aaron Hamill. This left only 4 listed Saints youngsters and 2 rookies for Springvale to choose from.

In difficult conditons the Scorpions failed to use the wind to their advantage in the 1st term & trailled by 7 goals at half time.

Number 2 draft pick Luke Ball played his 1st game for Springvale and was impressive with 17 quality possessions on a wing. Luke didn't participate in the 2nd half of the game as a precaution for hamstring tightness but showed that he could easily adapt to the increased tempo of VFL football.

Matt Maguire battled bravely in defence & showed signs of growing confidence with his 17 disposals (6 marks), whilst other youngsters Leigh Montagna, Josh Houlihan and Ben Schwarze struggled to adapt to the conditions and had little impact on the game. Rookie Chris Jones, who has spent considerable time on the bench in the Springvale seniors, was best afield for Springvale Reserves.
