CARLTON premiership legend David Parkin will help lead the club's search for its next coach, with the triple-premiership great named on the selection panel that will hunt for David Teague's successor.
New football director Greg Williams will be in charge of the selection process, which will also feature Parkin and board members Tim Lincoln and Patty Kinnersly. Football boss Brad Lloyd and CEO Cain Liddle will also be involved.
Parkin's appointment on the panel is sure to fuel more speculation surrounding Ross Lyon's chances of earning the position, with Lyon serving as an assistant under Parkin at the Blues for the 2000 season.
Lyon was also a player under Parkin's guidance at Fitzroy for three seasons in the 1980s.
"We have the benefit of the expertise of one of most successful coaches in the history of our football club," new Blues president Luke Sayers said in an email to members on Wednesday night.
"David Parkin guided our club to three premierships during his time as senior coach and remains one of the most respected figures in the game. Few would understand the qualities required to succeed as a senior coach more than David, who is a welcome addition to the panel."
Kinnersly, a former VFLW player, is the chief executive of Our Watch – a national organisation dedicating to driving change in behaviours against domestic violence – while Lincoln was appointed to the board last week and has high-level experience in data and analytics.
Williams, a premiership player and a Norm Smith Medal winner at Carlton under Parkin's watch in 1995, will lead the coaching selection panel after he was named as Chris Judd's replacement as the club's football director last week.
"Greg’s football credentials speak for themselves, having been associated with the elite level of the game for nearly 40 years, and boasting a list of achievements that are equal to the footy greats," Sayers said.
"Importantly, that extensive experience has given Greg a resolute understanding of what is required of a successful football club. He will be uncompromising in the standards we need to set and will work closely with the new senior coach to deliver on that."
The Blues are searching for a new coach having made the decision to sack Teague at the conclusion of his second full season in charge last Thursday. The decision came in the wake of an external review into the club's football department.
