Franklin was signed on a nine-year $10 million deal on the basis of his dazzling on-field exploits, but McVeigh said his words of wisdom at pre-season training have also made an impression.
"He's been fantastic," McVeigh said on Friday.
"He's offering good opinions about the things he's seen at Hawthorn, because they're the best team at the moment.
"He has been sharing a few things they do, which we can bring into our training and into our games.
"He's made contributions about the way the game is being played, because Hawthorn has been at the forefront of the competition for a number of years.
"(He's talked about) the way players play different positions, and you have to do that now with the interchange cap (being introduced in the 2014 season)."
Dual Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes is still restricted by the knee injury that limited the veteran to 12 games last year and forced him to miss the Swans' 2013 finals campaign.
But McVeigh expects this will change soon.
"He's flying at the moment," McVeigh said of Goodes, who ran laps on Friday.
"We've got a camp in a few weeks and I think he'll be coming back then, so he's going quite well at the moment.
"Being 34, it takes a bit longer but he doesn't do much pre-season anyway because he is so skilful and he knows how the game is played.
"I can't wait to see him back out on the field."
The Swans' first pre-season game of the year is against Greater Western Sydney on February 20 in Canberra, while the cross-city rivals start their premiership seasons with a derby clash on March 15.
