MELBOURNE has confirmed it will place Mitch Clark on its long-term injury list as the key forward takes personal leave from the club to deal with ongoing health issues.

The 26-year-old, who has battled a foot injury since midway through 2012, was replaced by rookie defender Alex Georgiou, who is in line to debut against St Kilda on Saturday night.

In other list changes ahead of round one's remaining matches, Adelaide placed captain Nathan van Berlo on its long-term injury list with no replacement named at this stage.

Van Berlo has been sidelined since mid January after rupturing his Achilles tendon while using a weighted training sled during a pre-season session.

St Kilda has placed young ruckman Lewis Pierce on the long-term injury list and upgraded rookie Eli Templeton, who is a strong chance to make his debut against Melbourne on Saturday night.

Pierce, who is yet to debut after being drafted with pick No.75 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, has battled stress fractures in his back this pre-season.

North Melbourne has placed key forward Tom Curran on the long-term injury list and upgraded rookie Joel Tippett.

Curran is yet to recover from a recurring foot injury that ruined his first two seasons.

On Tuesday Geelong upgraded mature-age rookie midfielder Jackson Sheringham as a replacement for Allen Christensen, who was already on the Cats' long-term injury list after undergoing back surgery in February.
