GREATER Western Sydney midfielder Josh Kelly looks certain to provide some welcome relief from his club's injury worries when he returns against Melbourne on Sunday.
Kelly, who missed last week's disappointing loss to Sydney with concussion after being knocked out in a tackle by Adelaide captain Taylor Walker in round 21, will add immediate star power to a Giants team locked in a fight to secure a home elimination final.
But while the 2017 All Australian will be a massive inclusion, the scope of the depleted GWS squad was in full view at Tom Wills Oval on Tuesday.
Just 15 players from last week's 22 took part in the short skills session, with Phil Davis (hip), Ryan Griffen (hamstring) and Jeremy Finlayson (ankle) all absent after getting injured against the Swans.
Lachie Whitfield, Tim Taranto, Zac Langdon and Lachie Keeffe were the others on light duties.
In addition to their reduced senior group, the Giants had just six more available players on the track, among them defender Zac Williams, who returned from Achilles surgery in the NEAFL last week.
The Giants expect Davis and Finlayson to be right to face the Demons at the MCG.
GWS head of athletic performance David Joyce said a battered Davis was recovering well.
"He's done everything right," Joyce said.
"He's got a couple of quad corks and other things as well because he's a combative sort of player, but he's showing signs of a really nice recovery.
"He's been in the pool today and we expect him to feature at the back end of the week and hopefully he can put his hand up for selection again."
Utility Sam Reid (hamstring) could also be a chance to come in after also getting injured against the Crows.
The speedster went through some rehabilitation running alongside Toby Greene (hamstring) and Aidan Corr (groin), plus some extra leading and one-on-one marking work, and looked to be moving freely.
Greene and Corr went through some more intense running before training, and both should to be available for the Giants' first final in a fortnight's time.
GWS forward Harry Himmelberg has backed the team's less experienced players to take up the slack against the Demons this week, despite the long list of stars on the club's injury list.
"We've seen Aiden Bonar come in and have a massive impact, and other young boys like Zac Langdon and Brent Daniels have come in with real confidence," he said.
"The boys have confidence in them to get the job done like they have so far, and hopefully they can continue that on."
