VICTORIA'S Transport Accident Commission will meet with the Geelong Football Club after skipper Joel Selwood lost his driver's licence for speeding.

Selwood has had his licence suspended for one month after being caught driving 127km per hour in a 100km zone on Friday afternoon.

It's understood high-level conversations are taking place within the TAC's Geelong headquarters.

"At this stage it is too early to make any statement about the partnership," TAC spokesperson Hamish Heard told AFL.com.au on Monday.

"We have been fully briefed by the Geelong Football Club.

"We will meet with the club in the near future to address the issue."

The TAC hinted it would wait to see whether the club would take any internal action against the captain.

"The club has advised they are determining appropriate action to address the disappointing actions of Joel Selwood," Heard said.

"We work closely with the Cats to ensure that all of the players and officials understand the important role they play as role models in helping us get Towards Zero."

Selwood, 28, is also an ambassador for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.

It's the fourth road-related incident the Cats have faced in recent years.

In 2013 Billy Smedts posed for a selfie from behind the wheel.

In 2014 ruckman Dawson Simpson, who's now at GWS, was booked for driving over the blood alcohol limit, while former Cat Brad Hartman was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after clipping a parked car when he failed to stop at a stop sign.

The Cats aren't the only AFL club to raise alarm bells with the TAC.

In 2005 it terminated a deal with Richmond, while Collingwood lost its partnership in 2008.
