CARLTON rookie Ciaran Sheehan could miss the rest of the season after he was booked in for groin surgery next week.
Coach Mick Malthouse revealed the fresh setback for the Irishman on Friday night, with the 24-year-old already sidelined by a groin injury.
Sheehan was recruited with pick No.60 in the 2014 Rookie Draft as an international selection, and won the Blues' best first-year player award despite playing only four games.
He enjoyed a solid season in the VFL and was expected to make the step up to AFL level consistently in 2015.
Malthouse said he was concerned by the amount of injuries occurring outside matches across the league this season.
"We've got to analyse these stats and see how many players are breaking down from training. I hate losing players from training," he told SEN on Friday night.
