The AFL has finalised its Charter for the Laws of the Game Committee.

AFL General Manager Football Operations Mark Evans last night distributed the charter to key stakeholders across the AFL industry and copies are available to any interested media.

Mr Evans said the primary focus of the Charter was to guide the Committee’s decision-making as it relates to the way the game is played at AFL level.

Following extensive consultation with stakeholders, fan research and discussion at the Laws of the Game Committee and the AFL Commission, the Charter sets out to:

  • provide the Laws of the Game Committee and other stakeholders with an overview of the guiding principles and fundamental elements of Australian Football
  • provide a clear reference point from the AFL Commission to the Laws of the Game Committee when assessing the game and considering potential rule and interpretation changes
  • give the AFL Commission a clear reference point when considering recommendations for the Laws of the Game Committee

The Charter also recognises that modified versions of the game exist to better suit particular groups, including junior football and other competitions.

A copy can be sent via return email.
