“Do you want to be part of the success of an AFL Club located in Australia’s fastest growing region”?

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic community development professional to join the Western Bulldogs in 2014 on a 12 month contract ending on 30 June 2015.  We are one of the 18 clubs of the Australian Football League (AFL) and are situated in the fastest growing region of Australia.

The position of Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the programming and delivery of successful, high quality community engagement activities by the Western Bulldogs. Using the power of AFL football, this role will help to create personal development, social connection and pathways for underrepresented community groups, including but not limited to migrants and refugees, people with a disability, Indigenous Australians and people affected by homelessness.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with Community Partners, to lead the design, implementation and evaluation of programs that focus on the integration and engagement of underrepresented priority community groups in the west of Melbourne particularly through its Settlement Grants Program (SGP) and Koori Youth Program.
  • Coordinate the referral process to support SGP clients with referrals to mainstream activities such as sports clubs as well as to other settlement programs
  • Represent the Club in a range of youth, health and settlement networks across the region including the administration and coordination of local and internal steering committees.
  • Working with the Community Engagement Manager, to ensure all projects and funding grants are acquitted in a timely and effective manner and assist with the procurement of new funding and partnership sources
  • Develop and maintain extensive networks of relevant Community Partners including (but not limited to) Local Government, Community, Sporting, Education, Health organisations/providers and Emergency Services.

To be considered for this role you will have Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience working in community development, health promotion, community organisations and/or sport.   A good understanding of settlement  and/or Indigenous issues and experience of working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD), refugee and Indigenous communities and underrepresented groups in the western region of Melbourne. Previous experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of community programs to underrepresented community groups using social inclusion and community development principles will be looked on very favourably.

The position requires you to be able to deliver sports programs, youth activities and health promotion activities across the Melbourne’s west; therefore it can be a physically demanding role and access to own vehicle is required as well as exceptional time management and organisational skills.  Due the nature of the region and the role of working with community organisations, it is an expectation that the incumbent will be available for flexible working hours.

This opportunity will suit those who are motivated to work in the community sector via an AFL Club and who hope to make a difference to the lives of marginalised people through sport and vocational training.
