The Brisbane Lions were among this year's big movers.

They ended last year's trade period with recriminations flying after five young players left the club. This time they're welcoming Allen Christensen and Dayne Beams, losing only Joel Patfull.

Port Adelaide fans can look forward to Paddy Ryder strutting his stuff at Alberton next season, after the Bomber ruckman became deadline day's biggest mover.

The mood changed fast at the Western Bulldogs.

In crisis when captain Ryan Griffen asked for a trade and coach Brendan McCartney was sacked, the Dogs turned things around in dramatic fashion by landing former No.1 draft pick Tom Boyd in a Wednesday afternoon bombshell.

The exit door spun fastest at Greater Western Sydney.

The Giants lost six players including Boyd and Jono O'Rourke. Griffen's arrival plus three draft picks in the top seven will sweeten the losses.

Carlton fans can also expect a few fresh faces at the club in 2015, with Liam Jones (Western Bulldogs), Mark Whiley and Kristian Jaksch arriving. Jeff Garlett (Melbourne) and free agent Jarrad Waite (North Melbourne) both left while Mitch Robinson and Kane Lucas may also be on the move in the following weeks.

Gold Coast brought in some quality through All Australian Nick Malceski and strongly-built Hawthorn midfielder Mitch Hallahan, and managed to hang on to ruckman Daniel Gorringe.

Meanwhile, St Kilda retains the No.1 pick in next month draft and Melbourne, thanks to its free agency compensation for James Frawley, has picks No.2 and 3.
