A NEW umpiring signal will be seen on grounds during NAB AFL Women’s matches, with a "lasso" gesture used to indicate a free kick for last touch.
The AFL umpiring department confirmed the unusual signal will be used after some confusion during practice matches.
Umpires were using the "deliberate out of bounds" signal, similar to an underarm throw, but have abandoned it in favour of a unique sign.
Field umpires will twirl their hand above their heads to pay a free for last touch.
Carlton and Collingwood will be the first to play in a game with the signal when they open the AFLW season on Friday night at Ikon Park.
