Suspended for three weeks for contact with Nick Riewoldt in 2011 and then four weeks last season for a clash with Aaron Joseph, Ziebell watched with interest as teammate Lindsay Thomas was cleared by the MRP for his head clash with Collingwood's Ben Reid last weekend.
"It's been said before the Match Review Panel have set the standard in this area," he said on SEN 1116 on Thursday morning. "I just really hope they stick with it and it doesn’t change from there."
He agreed with suggestions that it was now the case that if players keep their feet on the ground and don’t make contact to an opponent's head with their shoulder, then they will have been deemed to have made incidental contact.
"If that's the case, everyone knows what's acceptable and what's not.
"I thought Lindsay's bump was ok, but if you stick to your instinct and do the right thing, the system the AFL has in place will look after you," he said.
North's season got off to a disappointing start on Sunday when it lost to a depleted Collingwood by 16 points. According to Ziebell, the post-match review showed that the Kangaroos were let down by their skills against the Magpies.
"That was really disappointing because we had done so much work over the pre-season in that area.
"Against a quality team like Collingwood that's going to really cost you," he said.
He also agreed with suggestions the team's delivery to the forward line was also below par.
"We probably didn’t give our forwards much of a chance when we went long," he said.
"Ben Reid and Nick Maxwell really like to come third man up and we played into their hands a bit by sitting it on Drew Petrie, Lachie Hansen and Robbie Tarrant's heads a bit and didn’t give them the chance to run and mark the footy."
He added that the Kangaroos approaching Sunday's Etihad Stadium clash with North Melbourne with confidence given their win in the corresponding clash last year.
