Collingwood fans strap on the boots to play Footy-opoly

The greatly anticipated release of the Collingwood Football Club 2008 Charity Edition of Monopoly was officially launched on June 12 at a cocktail party at the MCG with the likes of Travis Cloke and Tyson Goldsack and Channel Nine’s Tony Jones to name a few.

The game celebrates the Club’s remarkable history as well as today’s players. It features 22 current players and four icons.  Rather than wheel and deal with Mayfair and Park Lane, players have the chance build a footy-opoly empire through buying, renting and mortgaging their favourite Collingwood stars. Stars and legends featuring on the ‘top end’ of the Board Walk include Scott Burns, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas and Travis Cloke.

Collingwood Football Club legend, Gavin Brown said: “With only 4000 of each game produced we’re confident these collector edition games will sell like hot cakes.  And it doesn’t matter who your favourite player is because when you buy one of these games you’ll be supporting Victorians with cancer through the Peter Mac Cancer Foundation.

“The interest in these two official AFL licensed products has been overwhelming with hundreds of enquiries and pre orders; it has really blown us away.”

The games are on sale now for $79.95 at all 26 Spotlight stores, all Supercheap Auto stores, selected AFL Stores and the Collingwood Club shop. Proceeds from the sale of the game go straight to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, supporting Australia’s most comprehensive and internationally acclaimed cancer centre, Peter Mac.

Peter Mac spokesperson, Andrew Kinnersly: “This is a fantastic product and the fact it is endorsed by the AFL as an official product gives it enormous credibility.”

The game is an initiative of the McGuinness McDermott Foundation (MMF) and the twelfth board game project in five years. The MMF is an Adelaide based charity that has raised over $10 million for charities around Australia that support children with cancer and serious illness. The Foundation was formed in 1996 by former AFL players Tony McGuinness and Chris McDermott.
