THE AFL has initiated talks with former greats to form a second organised group to assess the "look of the game".
AFL general manager of football operations Steve Hocking approached a number of individuals on Wednesday to canvas their interest in meeting in the coming weeks.
More former players will be contacted in the coming days.
It comes less than two weeks after the inaugural Competition Committee sat for the first time at AFL House to discuss the future direction of the game. It included 12 people from AFL clubs including presidents, CEOs, coaches, players and football managers.
It is understood any of the ideas raised by the second group of experienced football identities will be funnelled through the Competition Committee for discussion before ultimately being ticked off by the AFL Commission.
Malcolm Blight, the most recent legend inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame, confirmed he was approached when speaking on Sportsday SA radio on Wednesday night.
"[Hocking's] looking for a group of people with ideas to improve the look of the game. People like Leigh Matthews; I think he's going to get a group of about eight together,' Blight said.
And Blight won't be short of suggestions when the group first meets.
"Thirty-six players in one quarter of ground is my pet hate. I've got some ideas," he said.
