The AFL advises the Brisbane Lions vs. Collingwood Qualifying Final match scheduled to be played at the Gabba on Saturday, March 19 has been postponed with multiple players from Collingwood remaining in AFL Health and Safety Protocols.
AFL General Manager Competition Management Laura Kane said the league would continue to work closely with Collingwood and the Brisbane Lions and will confirm alternative arrangements for those teams as soon as they're finalised.
"The health and safety of all members of the Collingwood AFLW program remains the priority and we will continue to work closely with both clubs as we commence the 2022 NAB AFLW Finals Series," Ms. Kane said.
"In line with the AFLW's Covid Match Rescheduling Guidelines – which states a team is required to have a minimum 16 primary-listed players and five train-on players available to play – the league received a request from the Collingwood Football Club which detailed multiple players from their program were currently in AFL Health and Safety Protocols. Working alongside the club, it has been determined Collingwood would not be able to participate in a match this weekend.
"While the ongoing pandemic continues to impact and challenge our competition and our wider community, we remain committed to progressing the Finals Series as safely as possible.
"Thank you to each AFLW Club, players and the AFLPA, umpires, venues, governments, ticketing agents and all supporters for their understanding."
The North Melbourne vs. Fremantle match scheduled to be played on Saturday, March 19 will proceed as planned.
