Giant killing Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga warmed up for his second round grand slam match yesterday with a kick of the footy with North Melbourne stars Daniel Wells and Michael Firrito.

The Roos players will be keeping a close eye on the result of the adopted Roo’s Margaret Court Arena match today against Sam Warburg from the US.

Fresh from defeating Lleyton Hewitt in the lead-up to the Grand Slam, Tsonga, the world No. 38, then dispatched No. 9 seed Andy Murray in his first round match – the first seed of the tournament to fall.

Tsonga, 22, took time out of his training schedule yesterday to try his hand with the oval ball and Firrito was impressed with what he saw.

“He’s definitely got the size to compete at AFL level and considering it was his first time with a footy his skills weren’t too bad,” Firrito said. The Roos players are hoping to be courtside to support the Frenchman if he can continue his winning form in the tournament.
