Meanwhile, the Tigers' only other free agent, Luke McGuane, hopes to remain at Punt Road.
Less than 24 hours after White was dubbed the Tigers' most improved player at the Jack Dyer Count at Crown Palladium, he has told them he wants out.
As an unrestricted free agent, the Power can make White an offer and the Tigers don't get an opportunity to match it.
The 26-year-old played his best season this year with 16 games before a hamstring injury sustained in round 23 ruled him out of the losing elimination final against Carlton.
Still, he has been in and out of the best 22 throughout his career and was given just a one-year contract for this season.
The Power have emerged as a strong suitor for the former Calder Cannon.
His manager Anthony McConville confirmed to Fairfax Media that White had advised the Tigers he was going to "explore some further opportunities elsewhere" and that Alberton was his "likely destination".
"Richmond had indicated Matt was a required player but they understand the free agency situation and the opportunities for Matt to play a role at a club," McConville said.
White has played 105 AFL games since his 2006 debut, after he was taken by the Tigers in the pre-season draft the year before.
Defender-turned-forward McGuane is the Tigers' other unrestricted free agent and there is yet to be an announcement on where he will be in 2014.
It is believed McGuane wants to remain a Tiger but is yet to be offered a new deal with both parties content to wait and see what transpires in the next month.
The Tigers have a few players in that category. Aaron Edwards is also out of contract, while back-up ruckman Orren Stephenson was on a one-year rookie contract this season.
Big man Ivan Maric last month said he expected Stephenson to stay for another year.
McGuane played 12 games this year with a spate of VFL games in the middle of the season when Edwards became the preferred third tall forward option.
A leg injury ended his season after he faced Carlton in round 21.
The Gillette Trade and Free Agency Period officially kicks off on Friday.
