COLLINGWOOD captain Scott Pendlebury is a late withdrawal from Saturday's JLT Community Series clash against Richmond in Moe due to achilles tightness.
The skipper began to warm-up with teammates out on the ground an hour out from the game, but the Magpies decided not to risk him after he experienced soreness in his achilles on Friday night.
The Magpies seem to be unconcerned by his omission but missing the final pre-season game means the skipper will have a less than ideal preparation leading into a round one.
Defender Matthew Scharenberg's chances of playing in round one appear unlikely after he was left out of the Magpies' team to face the Tigers.
Scharenberg played the first two pre-season games for the Magpies as he continues his comeback from his second knee reconstruction.
The defender is instead running around in a VFL practice match against Geelong at Olympic Park Oval, alongside teammates Tim Broomhead and Josh Thomas.
The Magpies view Scharenberg, pick No.6 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, as a long-term prospect and want to give him every chance to reach his potential.
Magpies ruckman Brodie Grundy has been selected despite suffering a corked calf at training on Tuesday.
Richmond forward Ben Griffiths did not make the cut for the game at Ted Summerton Reserve, as the Tigers look to make it three wins from three starts in the pre-season.
Griffiths has played 61 games in seven seasons with Richmond and when he has at peak form his versatility is a valuable asset for the Tigers.
Youngsters Jayden Short and Connor Menadue were the other Tigers players withdrawn from the squad.
