GEELONG midfielder Cameron Guthrie has re-signed with the Cats for a further three years, committing to the club until at least the end of 2018.

The 22-year-old has had an impressive season, playing long stretches on the ball, and successfully tagging some of the game's elite players.

Guthrie said he hadn't given much thought to a switch of clubs, and was delighted to commit his future to Geelong.

"It's an exciting place to be around," he told the Cats' website.

"The club has been a big part of my adult life. I played a bit as a defender in my first few years, and I've transitioned into the midfield more recently, and the team's been playing some good footy."

Guthrie was taken by the Cats with pick No.23 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, and after a debut in 2011, has notched up 81 games with the club.

He said he was relishing the chance to take on Hawthorn this Saturday night at the MCG and help sustain the Cats' late-season push towards finals.

"We'll rock up at the MCG on Saturday, and we'll be confident that we can match it with them. Any team can beat any other team on their day."

Guthrie is one of a slew of Cats to sign new contracts with the club over the past month, joining Tom Hawkins, Darcy Lang and Jackson Thurlow in committing to Chris Scott's next era.

Stars such as Steven Motlop, Steve Johnson and Jimmy Bartel remain uncontracted for next year.
