Pre-season grand finalists the Brisbane Lions will make their annual team trip to the Sunshine Coast on Thursday to hold clinics for youngsters in the region.

Since staging a highly successful three-day Community Camp on the Sunshine Coast in early 2004, the Lions have returned each March to mingle with local juniors and fans.

The Lions possess one of the youngest and most exciting player lists in the AFL, and underlined their potential by reaching the NAB Cup grand final last weekend.

While they went down to Carlton in front of 46,000 fans at Telstra Dome, the Lions were never out of the contest and have several emerging players destined to become crowd favourites.

While superstars of the ilk of Michael Voss and Alastair Lynch have retired, big forward Jonathan Brown, midfielders Simon Black and Luke Power, and young guns Justin Sherman, Jed Adcock, Michael Rischitelli and Jared Brennan are set to carve out their own niche.

The Lions have maintained strong links with the Sunshine Coast by naming their reserves side the Suncoast Lions in 2004 and giving a string of young locals the opportunity to play alongside them at State League level over the past three seasons.

The Lions will separate into four groups to visit the Caloundra AFC in North Street, Caloundra; Nambour AFC in Jubilee Terrace, Palmwoods; Noosa AFC at Weyba Rd, Noosaville; and Gympie AFC on the Bruce Highway in Gympie.

The clinics will begin at 4pm at each venue and the players will sign autographs afterwards.

Children at the Caloundra clinic are in for a special surprise, with club mascot Bernie ‘Gabba’ Vegas joining the players there.
