Hannebery trained strongly throughout Tuesday's session at the SCG, even sticking around at the conclusion for some extra goalkicking practice, to firmly put his hand up for selection.
Sidelined since tearing ankle ligaments against Port Adelaide back in round 13, Hannebery is set to return against the same opponents this weekend, along with Lance Franklin.
A late withdrawal last week with his ongoing knee tendinitis, Franklin only took part in some ball work and kicking drills on Tuesday, but seemed totally at ease and untroubled by his knee issue.
Buddy will ramp up his training in Thursday's main session and should also make the trip to Adelaide Oval.
Hannebery has a good record in Adelaide, including a stunning 42-possession game against the Crows last year that yielded three Brownlow votes, and comes back just as the Swans gear up for a tilt at this year's flag.
"It'll be nice to have him back," fellow midfielder Craig Bird said on Tuesday.
"He's such a crucial part of our team and just brings that outside run and that gut running.
"He'll be a welcome inclusion to the midfield and hopefully we can get the win."
With Rhyce Shaw and Kurt Tippett both returning from injury over the past fortnight, and Hannebery and Franklin likely inclusions this week, coach John Longmire has virtually all of his first-choice talent available.
Last season the injury-depleted Swans were struggling for fitness and limped into the finals, but 12 months on the signs are much more positive.
There was a light-hearted mood at training on Tuesday, with Longmire jokingly offering the diminutive Ben McGlynn a chair to stand on as he took part in some handball drills with tall trio Franklin, Tippett and Sam Reid.
But the squad looked sharp once full training commenced as the Swans attempt to improve on their past two matches – a loss to Hawthorn and then just doing enough to get past Essendon without producing their best.
"It's been OK," Bird said when asked to assess their recent form.
"Obviously the loss to the Hawks was a bit disappointing and there were a few things we needed to tidy up.
"I thought we got back to a bit of form last week and we can keep improving on that again.
"Overall our form has been pretty good this year and … hopefully we can keep improving towards the end of the year, which we're going to have to."
Bird could be excused for having an extra spring in his step at training after he finalised a new two-year contract extension this week.
As reported by AFL.com.au on Monday, Bird has signed a deal that keeps him at the club until the end of 2016.
A New South Welshman who was handed the No.14 jumper made famous by Bob Skilton and Paul Kelly when he was drafted back in 2007, Bird was one of only a small group of Swans still off contract heading into next year.
Nick Malceski and Mike Pyke are now the two main names still unsigned and Bird is hopeful both will remain with the club beyond 2014.
"I don't know too much about their situations, but hopefully they do stay," he said.
"They're good players and they're crucial to the team.
"But I’m sure their management group will take care of that with them and hopefully they can get something sorted."
