The AFL has confirmed the fixture for Rounds Nine and 10 of the Smithy’s Victorian Football League (VFL) and Rounds 13 and 14 of the rebel Victorian Football League Women’s (VFLW) 2022 seasons.
Round Nine of the Smithy’s VFL season will commence on Saturday 21 May, with five matches scheduled across the afternoon.
Among the Saturday matches is a clash between Richmond and Essendon at the MCG, which will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Dreamtime at the ‘G blockbuster.
A second AFL curtain-raiser in Round Nine will take place on Sunday 22 May when the GWS Giants host Werribee at GIANTS Stadium. The match will be played ahead of the AFL match between the GWS Giants and West Coast Eagles.
Five teams will have a bye in Round Nine, including the Box Hill Hawks, Casey Demons, Collingwood, Frankston and North Melbourne.
Round 10 of the Smithy’s VFL season will feature ten matches played across three days, beginning with a clash between the Sydney Swans and Richmond on Friday 27 May.
The action on Saturday 28 May features two matches in Queensland, with Southport taking on the Brisbane Lions at Fankhauser Reserve, while the Gold Coast Suns will host the Box Hill Hawks.
Six matches are scheduled across an action-packed Sunday 29 May, which includes Carlton travelling to Preston City Oval to take on Northern Bullants, who the Blues formerly shared an alignment.
Port Melbourne has the bye in Round 10.
All matches in the 2022 Smithy’s VFL season will be live streamed via the AFL website (afl.com.au/stream-your-team) and AFL Live Official App. VFL broadcast partner the Seven Network will continue to show one weekly game plus every final, live and free on Channel Seven in Victoria and on 7Plus nationally.
The announcement of the fixture for Rounds 13 and 14 of the rebel VFLW season will take the competition through to the conclusion of the home-and-away campaign.
Round 13 will be played on Saturday 21 May and Sunday 22 May, with the penultimate round of the season featuring several matches between sides contending for places inside the top-six.
Round 14 will conclude the home-and-away season and features five matches on Saturday 28 May, including a much-anticipated clash between Essendon and Casey Demons at Windy Hill. Both sides are currently undefeated and occupy the top-two places on the ladder.
The final game of the rebel VFLW season will be played on Sunday 29 May, with the Southern Saints to host North Melbourne at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
A competition bye has been scheduled for the week following the conclusion of the rebel VFLW home-and-away season, with the four-week finals series set to commence on the weekend of
Saturday 11 June and Sunday 12 June, culminating in the VFLW Grand Final on the weekend of 2/3 July.
