Following the findings of the Match Review Panel involving charges to Des Headland and Josh Carr, the players have elected to have their charges heard directly by the tribunal.

Neither player will travel to Melbourne and will present their cases in Perth on Wednesday evening.

Headland has been charged with two separate offences for striking West Coast’s Adam Selwood and one offence for wrestling Selwood during the third quarter of the Round Three match between Fremantle and West Coast, played at Subiaco on Saturday April 14, 2007.

Headland has been charged with one offence for striking Selwood during the third quarter.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, which relates to a Level Three Offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. His existing record increases his penalty by 40 per cent to 315 points and he also has 31.25 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, which increases his penalty to 346.25 points and a three-match sanction.

An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 259.69 points and a two-match sanction.

Headland has also been charged with another offence for striking Selwood during the third quarter.

By way of explanation, where a player has multiple charges in a single week, the various penalties are combined if accepted. In Headland’s case, this means that sanctions of 259.69 points for the first charge and 259.69 points for the second charge would be combined for a total sanction of 519.38 points.

In addition, Headland has been charged with wrestling Selwood during the third quarter.

He can accept a $900 sanction with an early plea.

Carr has been charged following an investigation with striking Daniel Chick during the first quarter.

The incident was assessed as intentional contact (three points), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point). This is a total of six activation points, which relates to a Level Three Offence, drawing 225 demerit points and two-match sanction. His previous record increases his penalty by 30 per cent to 292.50 points. He also has 25 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, which increases his penalty to 317.50 points and a three-match sanction.
