AFTER a trying three weeks of attempting to field a respectable team, the byes are finally over and it’s back to business as usual.  

At this stage, most teams still have the odd rookie priced player lingering on the ground and they must be our priority upgrades in order to complete our teams… unless of course they are pumping out scores like Jared Polec and Dom Tyson who seem to keep getting the job done.

WHO'S ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK?

Stone the flaming crows! If you are one on the 26,000 unfortunate coaches who have not managed to offload Matthew Wright [FWD/MID, $398,538], the time has come. 

After a great start to the season where Wright scored under 90 points on just one occasion over the first six rounds, he has gone missing at a crucial time through the byes with scores of 66, 68 and 57 in the last three games. 

After his game against Carlton on the weekend, Wrighty dropped almost $15,000 and it leaves him with a break-even of 101, a score he has not reached since round one. 

On a positive note, he has risen almost $30,000 from his starting price, so that is a bonus.

SUPER SWAN

And no, I don’t mean the great Dane. Josh P Kennedy [MID, $570,619] is the form player of the competition and he should be high on the radar if you are looking at doing a midfield upgrade. 

The often-forgotten star is only owned by 7193 coaches which makes up just four per cent of the competition. Over the last five rounds, those coaches have watched their prize pick average 124, including a massive 131 in his last three games.

In fact, Kennedy is on a hot streak of six 100-point games in a row, only once falling under 110 and registering back to back 139s in his last two. He has a break-even of 78, so he will not be this cheap again for a long time based on his current form.

THE SIMPSON

Kade Simpson [DEF, $531,502] has quickly become a must-have in the backline, while 30,000 coaches have been patting themselves on the back the last two weeks as Kade has pumped out 145 and 143 consecutively. 

He has been a Fantasy stud for a while now, registering averages of 101, 95, 93 and 85 over the last four years, but his current average of 105 is clearly the best of his 12-year career to date. 

Simpson has seemingly been given a licence to roam all over the ground unmanned and he is racking up uncontested marks and possessions at will. The last two weeks he has collected 36 and 37 possessions respectively to go with 10 and 11 marks, all of which are season highs. 

The obvious worry is that he has fast become the Blues' most dangerous player, and historically he is not the best at breaking a tag, but with his next game against the Fantasy-friendly Lions, and a break-even of just 57, he ticks all boxes.

ROOKIE WATCH

The pick of the rookies this week is Saint Cameron Shenton [FWD/MID, $159,167]. So far this year he has played two games, with a slow start in round eight where he collected 10 possessions and a score of 38, but it was his second game that caught my eye with 22 touches, eight marks and 79 points playing in the back line. 

Shenton played one game for the Saints last year after showing great form across half-back where he averaged 27 disposals in his last four VFL matches and he finished 2013 as the Saints' highest vote getter in the Liston Trophy. 

I wouldn’t recommend putting him on the ground, but he looks a great bench option, especially with his DPP eligibility adding handy flexibility.

WHAT ARE THE TRADERS DOING THIS WEEK?

Warnie thought getting Cloke in with a relatively easy draw coming up was going to be a masterstroke. After 57 and 42 in the last two weeks, he can't put himself through anymore sub-standard scores and he's getting in proven gun Mark LeCras.
