PORT Adelaide forward Daniel Motlop is being investigated by police over a claim he verbally assaulted a teammate’s partner at a Glenelg bar several weeks ago.

The Power released a statement on Wednesday, saying the club was aware of the incident involving Motlop and the girlfriend of vice-captain Jacob Surjan.

The statement said that Motlop had intervened in a dispute between his partner and Surjan’s partner and that the club would make no further comment while the police investigation was ongoing.

The complaint was only lodged with the police this week and it’s unlikely the claim will impact on Motlop’s selection chances for the game against Melbourne in Darwin on Friday night.

Motlop, 28, has only played two games for Port Adelaide this season, after suffering a string of soft tissue injuries over the summer.
