The AFL has confirmed the fixture for Rounds 15 to 18 of the Smithy’s Victorian Football League (VFL) 2022 season.

ROUND 15

Round 15 of the Smithy’s VFL season will commence on Friday July 1, with Brisbane Lions to host Footscray at Moreton Bay Sports Complex from 12:05pm. The match will follow the Thursday night AFL encounter between the Lions and Bulldogs at the GABBA.

Saturday’s action features four matches, starting with a clash between Essendon and Sydney Swans at Windy Hill from 10:35am. The game begins a big day for Bombers and Swans fans, whose AFL teams meet at the MCG in the afternoon.

Among the other highlights of Saturday’s games is a meeting between Frankston and Geelong under lights at Skybus Stadium from 7:05pm. 

A further four matches will be played on Sunday, beginning with Richmond and Collingwood squaring off at Swinburne Centre from 11:05am. The early start allows Tigers fans to also attend the club’s AFL match against West Coast at the MCG later in the day.

GWS Giants and Box Hill Hawks clash at Giants Stadium prior to the AFL game between the Giants and Hawthorn, while Coburg and Northern Bullants both host home matches at 2:15pm.

Three teams will have a bye in Round 15, including Carlton, Sandringham and Southport Sharks.

ROUND 16

Round 16 kicks off with a much-anticipated Friday night match at GMHBA Stadium between Geelong and Casey Demons. The first bounce will take place at 7:05pm.

Five games are scheduled for Saturday July 9, beginning with Collingwood hosting North Melbourne at AIA Centre from 11:05am. The match will be played directly prior to the AFL clash between the Magpies and Kangaroos at the MCG.

Gold Coast Suns and Frankston meet at Metricon Stadium from 12:50pm ahead of the AFL match between the Suns and Richmond, while Port Melbourne and Carlton will clash under lights at ETU Stadium from 7:05pm.

Sandringham takes on Footscray at Trevor Barker Beach Oval from midday Sunday in the Seven Network broadcast match, while Williamstown hosts GWS Giants in the day’s only other match.

Five teams have a bye in Round 16, including Brisbane Lions, Essendon, Northern Bullants, Richmond and Sydney Swans.

ROUND 17 (TAC Road Safety Round)

Two Friday night matches will launch Round 17. Southport Sharks host Sydney Swans at Fankhauser Reserve from 7:05pm, while Frankston and Northern Bullants meet at Skybus Stadium in a battle between two of the competition’s standalone clubs.

Five games are scheduled across four timeslots on Saturday. Among the matches are North Melbourne vs Richmond at Arden Street Oval and Carlton vs Geelong at IKON Park, with both games fixtured ahead of AFL matches featuring the same clubs later in the day.

On Sunday, Port Melbourne hosts Collingwood in the Seven Network broadcast match, while Gold Coast Suns make the trip to Windy Hill to take on Essendon ahead of the AFL clash between the Suns and Bombers at Marvel Stadium.

Casey Demons, Footscray and Williamstown have a bye in Round 17.

ROUND 18

Round 18 begins on Saturday morning when Sydney Swans host Frankston at Lakeside Oval from 10:05am

Footscray meets Casey Demons and Richmond hosts Williamstown in the two afternoon games, while Carlton and GWS Giants will clash under lights at IKON Park from 6:05pm.

Four games are also scheduled on Sunday, which includes Northern Bullants hosting Box Hill Hawks at Preston City Oval in the Seven Network broadcast match.

Sunday’s action features two games in Queensland, including a derby between Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns at Moreton Bay Sports Complex.

Five teams have a bye in Round 18, including Coburg, Collingwood, Geelong, North Melbourne and Werribee.
