Geelong has suffered a setback heading into the Wizard Home Loans Cup with confirmation that skipper Steven King will miss the first few weeks because of soreness caused by scar tissue in his right ankle.

King sought help from the club last week because of continuing discomfort.

"It's frustrating for Steven because his rehabilitation from the Achilles injury he suffered last year has progressed ahead of schedule," Geelong Football Operations Manager Garry Davidson said.

"The soreness he is feeling seems to be caused by some scar tissue around the achilles.”

The Cats are awaiting test results to determine the extent of the injury and cannot confirm when he is expected to be back in the side.

The Cats play Port Adelaide in Cairns next Saturday night.
