DURABLE Hawthorn veteran Shaun Burgoyne's left hamstring injury has put him in serious doubt for the club's showdown with reigning premier Richmond on Sunday.

The Hawks confirmed Burgoyne's injury was a low-grade strain and he did not play after quarter-time in their one-point victory over Geelong at the MCG on Easter Monday.

The 35-year-old left the field shortly after missing a set shot late in the opening term, feeling his hamstring moments after the kick. 

He spent the rest of the match at the back of the Hawthorn bench with his hamstring wrapped in ice.

Burgoyne has the third-longest active games streak with 107, behind only Brandon Ellis (108) and Zach Tuohy (117).

The four-time premiership player last missed a match in round 18, 2013.

"All I knew is he wasn't able to come back on the ground – I don’t know the severity of it," coach Alastair Clarkson said post-match. 

"More than likely, if he can't come back on, with a soft-tissue injury, he'll miss next week, but how long it is, (I'm) not too sure."
