ONE OF the most exciting elements of round one is seeing the new faces at every club. And this round will see another batch of debutants around the competition – some who have been at their clubs since last year's drafts and others who have had to wait a little longer for their first game.
But who will be the standouts by the end of the weekend? AFL.com.au has picked out 10 of the best round one debuts in the past decade.
Andrew McGrath, 2016
The Bombers' first ever No.1 pick started his career in brilliant fashion, gathering 22 disposals in Essendon's win over Hawthorn. His composed approach stood out against some of the Hawks' premier small forwards, and it kickstarted his run to winning last year's NAB AFL Rising Star.
Clay Smith, 2012
The first-round draft pick burst onto the scene with four goals in the Bulldogs' season opener against West Coast in 2012. Then aged 18, Smith was a shining light for his side in its 49-point defeat. Smith, now a premiership player with the Dogs, has kicked four goals in a game twice since his debut, but never more than that.

Toby Greene, 2012
Before Toby Greene was an All Australian forward he was a busy and industrious midfielder. The GWS star showed that from game one, when he picked up 27 disposals (15 contested) and laid five tackles against the Swans at Olympic Stadium. Greene averaged 28 disposals in 19 games in his debut year.
Ollie Wines, 2013
The Demons overlooked Wines at the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and Port swooped on him at pick seven. Wines quickly showed what makes him so good, as he dominated in the midfield for Port against Melbourne in the opening round of 2013. He had 24 disposals and kicked a goal on debut and was named the round's Rising Star.
Cyril Rioli, 2008
Rioli only had 14 disposals in his first AFL game – a 104-point win over Melbourne at the MCG – but he did some things that have become synonymous with his game since. The exhilarating half-forward kicked a goal, laid some tackles and played showed why he would quickly settle into Hawthorn's 2008 premiership side.

Clayton Oliver, 2016
Oliver won the first Rising Star nomination of 2016 after a brilliant 22-disposal effort against Greater Western Sydney in 2016. The midfielder's performance included seven clearances and 15 contested touches just months after he was taken at pick No.4 in the draft, having been a late-season bolter.
Michael Barlow, 2010
Barlow debuted as a 22-year-old for Fremantle and immediately made his mark. The midfielder gathered a game-high 33 disposals and booted two goals for the Dockers against Adelaide, and showed the same ball-winning traits he had developed at VFL level before being taken in the previous year's pre-season draft.
Kamdyn McIntosh, 2015
It was an eventful debut for McIntosh three years ago, when he picked up 23 disposals against Carlton in front of nearly 84,000 fans at the MCG. The young Tiger, who had waited two years to pull on the Tigers' guernsey, bolted away from Blues champ Chris Judd and kicked a magnificent goal, and also nailed Dale Thomas in a tackle in the opening minute that injured the Blues' star's shoulder.

Daniel Rich, 2009
The Brisbane defender made a great first appearance for the Lions back in 2009, when he collected 21 disposals and laid four tackles. He fitted in seamlessly at AFL level and played 24 games for the season on the way to claiming the Rising Star that season, thanks largely to his raking left-foot kick.
Dale Thomas, 2006
Thomas became a fan favourite from his very first game at Collingwood, when he had 16 disposals and kicked two goals to excite the black and white faithful. Thomas also gave a glimpse of what was to come during his successful career with the Pies, taking a nice 'hanger' on debut.
