Sier, who last year played 12 of the last games of the season including the Grand Final, is yet to play an AFL game this year following a series of niggles, but he showed promising signs in collecting 24 possessions, including 17 handballs, and snapping a goal.
Wingman Ben Crocker, who has regularly been in the selection frame for the Pies' AFL team this year, was also in good form with 26 possessions, including 12 in the first quarter, while classy little man Josh Daicos showcased his clean skills with 23 touches and 1.1.
Quieter than usual, though, were veteran midfielder Daniel Wells (13 disposals and 0.1) and prized draftee Isaac Quaynor, both of whom were emergencies for the Magpies' AFL clash with St Kilda on Saturday.

This weekend: Richmond v Box Hill Hawks - Sunday, May 19, 11.40am, Swinburne Centre
Veteran Jarryd Roughead didn't exactly enhance his chances of an AFL recall in Box Hill's eight-point loss to the undefeated Richmond at Punt Road on Sunday.
After being dropped and responding strongly with five goals in his first VFL game in more than seven years, the 32-year-old was much quieter against the Tigers, managing just eight possessions, two marks and one goal in windy conditions.
The 281-gamer appeared set for another multiple-goal haul when he snapped the Hawks' first goal of the day, with the breeze in the second term, but found it difficult to get involved in the flow of play.
Midfielder Daniel Howe, who was axed along with Roughead, performed well in gathering a team-high 25 touches and laying five tackles.
Key defender Kaiden Brand was a rock down back, particularly in the first half when he took eight marks, including four of the intercept variety, before his influence was stemmed.
Fellow backman David Mirra (23 touches and 11 marks) and untried teenage forward Jackson Ross (three goals from 13 touches) were also prominent while Darren Minchington chimed in with two goals.

Tigers livewire Daniel Rioli made a positive return in an eight-point win over Hawthorn in their VFL clash at Punt Road on Sunday.

Fellow premiership heroes Jacob Townsend (19 touches and five tackles) and Dan Butler were also strong contributors, with the pacy Butler leading the scoring with 3.2, kicking the first goal in both halves, while collecting 17 possessions.
Second-year runner Patrick Naish was impressive in amassing a game-high 28 touches, including 21 kicks. He also scored 0.2.
Pressure forward Maverick Weller had 18 touches, laid four tackles and kicked a goal after taking a strong contested mark, while rookie-listed beanpole Mabior Chol kicked two goals in the third quarter and first-year midfielder Fraser Turner had 20 touches.
Would be forgiven for thinking this is the AFL match, not the VFL curtain-raiser, at Punt Rd. Dan Rioli swoops for a shot at goal, with Jarryd Roughead defending. Not coming as easy for Roughy this week. Six disposals and one goal to 3QT. pic.twitter.com/NnzObH7qjw
