PORT Adelaide vice-captain Hamish Hartlett has made a successful return in his first game since suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2018.

Almost 11 months after rupturing the ACL in his right knee on April 26 last year, Hartlett moved freely in a SANFL trial game against Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Friday night.

The 28-year-old was heavily involved across half-back, racking up 19 disposals and six marks.

Hartlett could be called up for the Power's round two clash with Carlton at Adelaide Oval next Saturday, but he's more likely to play another SANFL game to build his match fitness before being considered for the senior side.

Dougal Howard was solid after being overlooked for the Power's season-opener with Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday, Sam Gray was lively in attack and Aidyn Johnson kicked three goals.

It was bad news for the Crows, with first-year forward Shane McAdam suffering a calf injury with two minutes to go in the game.

He is likely to miss at least a couple of weeks.

McAdam was running with the ball before grabbing the back of his leg and needing to be helped off the ground.

Hugh Greenwood got more valuable game-time under his belt in his comeback from an abdominal tendon injury, while Tyson Stengle, Jordan Gallucci and Ben Davis were busy.

Cam Ellis-Yolmen and Reilly O'Brien played the first half before sitting out the rest of the game.

They are both emergencies for Saturday's AFL round one encounter with Hawthorn.

Port Adelaide won the game by 15 points – 12.8 (80) to 10.5 (65).
