HE MAY be indefinitely suspended but a four-goal haul from Tom Boyd in the VFL will have Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge pondering a recall for the forward.

News of Boyd's ban broke out in the past week after a drunken fight with teammate Zaine Cordy. Cordy was also banished from the senior team for an unspecified amount of time, but he has yet to line up in the AFL this season. 

Boyd, 20, responded by being the only multiple goalkicker in Footscray's 12-point loss to Coburg at Piranha Park.

The first player drafted in 2013 spent most of his time at full-forward, while also occasionally relieving Tom Campbell of ruck duties. Boyd finished with 17 disposals. 

The third quarter was the best for Boyd, after he booted two goals in that term.

A scuffle broke out at three-quarter time, but Boyd wasn't in the immediate vicinity, ensuring he wouldn't be the recipient of another suspension.

Twice he took strong contested marks – and duly converted – while an impressive one-handed pick-up and quick handball set up another goal.

It was Boyd's fourth consecutive match in the VFL after returning from a shoulder injury.

He slotted three goals in his previous match.

Cordy also took part in the match and was serviceable in defence.

Midfielder Koby Stevens dominated in his return from an abdominal strain, racking up 39 disposals after having taken to the field in only one game since early May.

Young defender Roarke Smith's return from a knee reconstruction went well, as he showcased his toughness and evasive skills.

Joel Hamling started in the forward line but shifted to the backline from the second quarter. His intercept marking, particularly in the final term, was the highlight from a personal perspective.

The Western Bulldogs face Richmond next Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.
