GIANT Josh Kelly isn't being distracted by the big-money offers reportedly being thrown at him, according to Melbourne's Christian Salem.

The Demon playmaker and Kelly are long-time friends after attending Melbourne's Brighton Grammar together and starring for the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup.

The two were taken six selections apart in the first round of the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, after Melbourne traded pick two (Kelly) to Greater Western Sydney for Dom Tyson and pick nine (Salem).

Despite a rumoured multi-million dollar, nine-year contract being offered by North Melbourne to the 22-year-old, Salem insists Kelly is just concentrating on doing his best for the Giants.

"I've spoken to him a little bit (lately), but not too much about (his contract negotiations)," Salem told AFL.com.au.

"He's just focused on playing some good footy and he's started off the year pretty well.

"He's a great man off the field and on the field, so I look forward to him having a big year."

While Kelly has a big decision to make on his bright future, Salem's Demons have a big assignment on their hands this weekend against a Geelong side that annihilated them late last season by 111 points.

Salem insisted coach Simon Goodwin hadn't referred to that embarrassing performance in the build-up to Saturday afternoon's clash at Etihad Stadium, but said the young Demon midfield is looking forward to their mentor's challenge of going head-to-head with dynamic duo Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood.

Stationed predominately across half-back this season, the skilful utility says he'd embrace the opportunity to test himself against the imposing pair dubbed 'Dangerwood'.

"If (the coaches) want me in (the midfield), I'm happy to be in there," Salem said.

"We're a young emerging group, and have a lot of boys who can float through there.

"It will be a good test for us."
