FREMANTLE has delisted key defender Alex Silvagni as the Dockers continue their huge list turnover.

The Dockers announced on Wednesday that Silvagni, 29, would not have his contract renewed just days after fellow veteran Michael Barlow announced he would be departing the club.

The Dockers have now made 13 list changes in total following their disastrous 2016 season. They have delisted 11 players, while club legend Matthew Pavlich has retired and Chris Mayne moved to Collingwood as a free agent.

Silvagni played 53 games in seven seasons at the Dockers after he was drafted as a mature-age rookie in 2010 from Casey Scorpions in the VFL. 

He played 15 games in his debut season in 2010 but never played more than 10 games in any other year as he struggled with injury and opportunity. 

He played the last five games in 2016 and delivered some excellent performances, which led the Dockers to think long and hard about retaining him on the list. 

But with veteran duo Michael Johnson and Zac Dawson contracted for 2017, along with the emergence of youngsters Alex Pearce and Sam Collins, and the recruitment of Western Bulldogs premiership defender Joel Hamling, the club is flush with key defenders. 

Fremantle's football manager Chris Bond said Silvagni had been unlucky with injury after the promise of his first season.

"Unfortunately, opportunities for Alex to secure a regular spot in the senior side in subsequent seasons were hampered by injury," Bond said.

"Throughout that time though, Alex always displayed the many fine attributes that make him the quality person he is, and saw him held in the highest regard by everyone at Fremantle.

"We thank Alex for the contribution he made to the club both on and off the field, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours." 

Silvagni was a key contributor to Peel Thunder's historic WAFL premiership in 2016.

Collingwood reportedly showed some interest in Silvagni during the NAB AFL Trade Period, but the Magpies secured Lynden Dunn from Melbourne after losing key defenders Jack Frost (Brisbane Lions) and Nathan Brown (St Kilda).
