ADELAIDE'S All Australian defender Daniel Talia is in doubt for Saturday night's clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium with a groin injury.

Dashing winger David Mackay will also need to pass a fitness test this week after suffering a corked quad in last Sunday's 84-point smashing of Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

Talia reported tightness in his groin in the opening quarter of Showdown 43, but was able to play out the majority of the game before being benched midway through the last quarter.

"For precautionary reasons and the state of the game, we were able to rest him with about 10 minutes to go," Crows general manager of high performance Matt Hass told afc.com.au.

"He’s pulled up pretty well this week and he’ll be a test for this weekend."

Crows star Rory Sloane said Talia trained on Tuesday and other players who were carrying a few bumps and bruises would train later in the week.

"We've got a couple short turnarounds, six-day breaks, so I'd imagine these guys will rest up today and tomorrow and get stuck into our main session on Thursday," Sloane said.

After the game with the Bombers, the Crows will then turn their focus to a massive Friday night encounter with Sydney at Adelaide Oval in round 22.

Swingman Andy Otten looms as the logical replacement if Talia isn't able to take his place in the side.

Key defender Kyle Hartigan is at least another week away with a hamstring injury.

Mackay sustained a heavy hit to the thigh in the opening minutes of the clash with the Power.

"That was reasonably significant," Hass said.

"We did what we could.

"The physios and doctors put a fair bit of work into him, but after making one attempt back out on the ground, unfortunately we had to stop his day there."

The Crows have second-year midfielder Wayne Milera and former Collingwood winger Paul Seedsman to call on if Mackay is ruled out.
