Riewoldt had been due to appear on Fox Footy's On the Couch program on Monday night, but at the beginning of the show, host Gerard Healy told viewers the Saints skipper would not be appearing.
“Apologies to those Saints fans after we pre-promoted Nick Riewoldt. He has been unable to attend,” Healy said.
“He wasn't unable to attend; St Kilda withdrew his commission, fearful that he may say something on the sensitive Stephen Milne subject,” co-host Mike Sheahan added.
St Kilda confirmed to AFL.com.au that it was responsible for pulling Riewoldt from the program.
The decision to withdraw Riewoldt from the show was made in the days before the side's 64-point loss to Richmond.
Richmond midfielder Daniel Jackson replaced the Saints forward on the show.
Milne is due in court on Friday, charged with rape, over allegations dating back to 2004.
The captain had publicly backed Milne, 33, to play on before the club stood him down indefinitely in the wake of police charges.
The decision to withdraw Riewoldt from the show follows Essendon captain Jobe Watson's explosive interview on the program one week ago.
Essendon coach James Hird conceded in the wake of Watson's admission that he believed he had taken the banned drug AOD-9604 that he was 'surprised' by his skipper's revelation.
Healy revealed Watson had told him in the green room, before the interview, of his willingness to answer the question live to air.
