A dominant four-quarter effort resulting in 38 possessions (19 contested), seven marks and seven tackles saw Collingwood’s Dane Swan poll nine votes in the AFL Coaches Association (AFLCA) Champion Player of the Year.

The reigning two-time Copeland Trophy winner has jumped to second position on the AFL leader board, one vote ahead of Fremantle’s Matthew Pavlich and 14 votes behind Hawthorn’s Luke Hodge.

Mick Malthouse and Dean Bailey were split over who they deemed best on ground with Swan and Demon Brent Moloney both polling a maximum of five votes.

Scott Pendlebury received a combined five votes (three and two) for his 27-possession game while Brad Dick (four goals) and Dayne Beams (24 possessions) each polled one vote.

In the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year, head coaches vote each week on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis. Coaches vote only on their own matches, but may vote for players on the opposing team.

Past winners of the prestigious award include Gary Ablett Jnr (2007-09), Simon Goodwin and Adam Goodes (joint winners in 2006), Barry Hall (2005) and Warren Tredrea (2004).
