LANCE Franklin remains firm favourite to claim his third Coleman Medal despite sitting seven goals behind the current leader.

Franklin has booted 20 goals this season and sits ninth on the League's goalkicking leaderboard after a quiet month that included two goalless games.

Richmond's Jack Riewoldt heads the ladder with 27, from West Coast's Josh Kennedy (26), North Melbourne's Lindsay Thomas (25), Collingwood's Travis Cloke (23), Greater Western Sydney's Jeremy Cameron and St Kilda's Nick Riewoldt (22).

Franklin even has a teammate ahead of him – Jarryd Roughead – who is equal seventh with Carlton's Jeff Garlett on 21 goals.

But with the Hawks having already played seven other teams who faced off in the 2012 finals and with games against Gold Coast and Melbourne to come before their bye, punters are bullish about Buddy's chances of improvement.

"Franklin is yet to kick a bag of goals this season but given the Hawks' upcoming draw it only looks a matter of time," TAB Sportsbet's Matt Jenkins told AFL.com.au.

"He gets so many shots on goal he can never be too far from the top of betting."

Roughead has come in from an opening price of $151 into $13 while Franklin has eased from $2.50 to $3.50.

Richmond's Riewoldt and Cloke are both $5 to win while there is still faith in Geelong's Tom Hawkins – despite his on-going back soreness – with him sitting on $9 with Kennedy.

Franklin won the Coleman Medal in 2008 and 2011.

The Hawks' draw and Sam Mitchell's recent form also has punters excited about the midfielder's chances of winning his first Brownlow Medal.

While Gold Coast's Gary Ablett remains favourite at $6 ahead of Essendon's Jobe Watson ($7), Mitchell's 35 disposals against the Giants on Saturday have seen him move from $11 into $8.

He is now third favourite ahead of Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield ($11) and Richmond's Trent Cotchin and Geelong's Joel Selwood ($13).

"He has shown in the past he polls well and is one of the most consistent players in the game," Jenkins said.

"Given [the Hawks'] upcoming draw, it is easy to see the likes of Sam Mitchell and Lance Franklin starring."
