MATTHEW Lloyd will have no official role at Essendon in 2016, but is likely to maintain some connection with forward Joe Daniher.
Daniher received intense tutelage from the Bombers legend in 2015, and it seemingly worked.
The 21-year-old kicked 34 goals and 24 behinds in 22 matches.
It's understood Lloyd wants to focus on his media commitments as a special comments man for Melbourne radio station 3AW and panelist on Channel Nine's Footy Classified.
New coach John Worsfold has spoken with both Lloyd and Daniher, and has endorsed an informal approach.
"I've spoken to Joe, and Joe feels like he's really happy with the tools and the processes and systems, that Matt's put in place for him," Worsfold said on Tuesday.
"So he's got that now, he knows all that stuff, so he's pretty well right to keep working on that.
"I have spoken to Matt, really around understanding that he felt it was going to clash too much with what his main role is in footy, in the media, and that's fully understandable."
Upstaged, but Ambrose wins Dons' time trial
Worsfold said Lloyd would always be welcome at the club's Tullamarine base.
"And if Joe in a month's time wants to just have refresher with him, then we'll welcome Matty back to have some of that interaction with him," Worsfold said.
"I think Matt will always have a connection with Joe, I've got no doubt about that.
"If he felt like he needed to take Joe out and have a dozen shots at goal, he doesn't need to sneak off site somewhere, he's more than welcome to come into the footy club, tee it up and run that session."
