From Friday 17 to Sunday 19 December, the Brisbane Lions first and second year players travelled to picturesque Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for a three-day camp.

The camp was designed to acquaint the new Lions players with those who experienced their first taste of AFL only a year ago.

New recruits Rohan Bewick, Jared Polec, Patrick Karnezis, Ryan Lester, Josh Green and Brad Harvey were welcomed to the group by the crop of players who joined the Lions just last season.

The group of approximately 25 players and staff stayed in a farmhouse in Maleny, bunking together on the floor in sleeping bags.

The main feature of the camp was a 6-hour, 22km hike through Kondalilla Falls, followed by a round of golf which was unfortunately washed out after only a few holes.

Veterans Jamie Charman and Xavier Clarke joined the group on the first night as a mentoring opportunity for the new players to ask questions about the realities and experiences of playing in the AFL.

The players also participated in a trivia competition, testing their general knowledge, football knowledge and Club knowledge.

The camp proved to be a fun, relaxed and valuable experience for the first-year players as they now head into their Christmas break.
