Third season a charm for talented forward after contract extension
SYDNEY Swans youngster George Hewett has been rewarded for his solid start to 2016 with a new two-year contract.
Hewett's latest deal with the Swans will see him at the club until at least the end of 2018.
The 20-year-old had a consistent season in the reserves in 2015 – his second on the Swans' list - and made the NEAFL team of the year. After carrying that form into this pre-season, he earned his debut in round one against Collingwood.
The hard-working forward has missed just one game since and has been an important part of the Swans' side, with his tackling pressure inside 50 and ability to find the footy through the midfield impressive.
Swans football manager Tom Harley said it was great to have the up-and-coming midfielder sign on for two years.
“We are extremely excited to have George commit to the club for another two years,” Harley said.
“He is an outstanding young man who has patiently worked on his game to the point of being a trusted member of the senior squad.
“He has forced his way into the team this year and we look forward to watching George’s career develop further.”
Hewett, along with star midfielders Dan Hannebery, Kieren Jack and Luke Parker, speedy utility Harry Cunningham, and defenders Nick Smith, Jeremy Laidler and Aliir Aliir, have all re-signed with the Swans over the past two seasons.
