The AFL is pleased to announce the full fixture for Round Two of the 2022 NAB AFLW Season Seven.
The huge weekend of AFLW will now kick off with Melbourne v North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos playing at the MCG at 5pm AEST on Friday September 2, relocated from ETU Stadium.
This line up will see the two AFLW teams play on the big stage ahead of the Melbourne v Sydney Second Qualifying Final, which will begin at 7.50pm AEST. This will be the first time the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos women’s team has played on the MCG.
AFL EGM Clubs, Finance and Broadcasting Travis Auld said the move was a great chance to showcase the incredible talent of our AFLW teams on a dream stage.
“We’re focused on ensuring our AFLW teams can play large stadiums wherever logistically possible. We’ll continue to champion our women’s teams and highlight the amazing talent we have throughout the league by facilitating these kinds of opportunities,” Mr Auld said.
AFL General Manager Women’s Football Nicole Livingstone emphasised how positive the move to the MCG was for the league.
“This is such a well-deserved and momentous occasion for these two AFLW teams – to be able to run out on the MCG and play amazing football in front of a huge crowd ahead of a Final is an amazing opportunity and one we’re so glad we’ve made a reality.
“The demand we’ve seen for AFLW tickets has been huge – first we moved the Hawthorn and Essendon game to Marvel and now Melbourne and North opening for a Final at the MCG speaks volumes to how much the community is getting behind women’s football,” she said.
The Round Two AFLW fixture will also see Richmond v Adelaide Crows at Swinburne Centre Punt Road Oval on Saturday September 3 at 11.40am.
Fremantle v Geelong Cats will be played at 11:40am WST/1.40pm AEST at Fremantle Oval and Port Adelaide will take on the Western Bulldogs at 1:10pm ACST/1:40pm AEST to round out a super Saturday.
Tickets will need to be purchased for the 2022 Toyota AFL Finals Series Melbourne v Sydney Swans game to attend the AFLW match at the MCG prior.
Melbourne and North Melbourne AFLW members will be able to purchase tickets in the member pre-sale from 10am Tuesday 23 August at ticketek.com.au at AFL Finals prices. General public tickets will be available from 3pm.
