NORTH Melbourne has secured talented Western Bulldogs midfielder/forward Nathan Hrovat in a deal that also saw future draft picks exchanged between the two clubs.

Hrovat has battled injury throughout his career at the Bulldogs and managed just four senior games in 2016, unable to secure a spot in the club's first premiership team for 62 years. 

He attracted interest from Carlton and Gold Coast before settling on North Melbourne, who needed a small forward after moving on Brent Harvey and Robin Nahas. 

In the deal North Melbourne gained the 22-year-old Hrovat as well as the Western Bulldogs' future third and fourth round pick while the Dogs took North Melbourne's future third and fourth round selections.

The deal indicates the Bulldogs are confident of finishing higher than the Kangaroos in 2017.

Hrovat played 30 games for the Bulldogs after being taken with pick No.21 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.

“We see a tremendous amount of upside in Nathan and are rapt to have him at North,” Roos football manager Cameron Joyce said on Thursday.

“He has great skills and the ability to play through the midfield and up forward which offers us great flexibility.”
