Tigers, Dons may be depleted when they meet at the MCG on Saturday
RICHMOND small forward Shane Edwards and Essendon midfielder Heath Hocking appear set to miss Saturday night's MCG game between the clubs after both were offered a one-match suspension by the AFL's Match Review Panel.
Edwards was charged with a level three striking offence following a clash with Greater Western Sydney's Liam Sumner during the first quarter of Sunday's contest at Skoda Stadium.
The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction.
He has an existing six-year good record, reducing the penalty by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 126.56 points - still a one-match sanction.
Hocking has been charged with a level three striking offence (225 demerit points, two-match sanction) for his clash with Carlton's Chris Yarran during the third quarter at the MCG on Saturday night.
Due to his previous poor record, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea. The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points).
This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction.
He has a bad record of three matches suspended within the past two years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 247.50 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 185.63 points and a one-match sanction.
Gold Coast defender Steven May will miss his club's season finale against the Giants on Sunday after being charged with a level two striking offence against St Kilda's Steven Milne during the first quarter on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.
Even with an early plea, the sanction stands at one game after being classified as reckless, low impact and high contact.
In summary, due to his previous poor record, his one-match sanction must remain at one match, even with an early plea.
He has an existing bad record of 93.75 demerit points carried over within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 218.75 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 164.06 points and a one-match sanction.
Hawthorn midfielder Brad Sewell has been fined $2600 for making contact with umpire Chris Kamolins at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, which can be reduced to $1950 with an early plea.
West Coast skipper Darren Glass has been fined $1200, reduced to $900 with an early plea, for wrestling Collingwood's Ben Kennedy at the MCG on Friday night.
Contact between North Melbourne’s Lachlan Hansen and Hawthorn’s Lance Franklin from the third quarter of Saturday’s game looked at, but was viewed that the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.
And an incident between Hawk Brent Guerra and North's Robbie Tarrant was also reviewed. The MRP ruled that Hawk defender Josh Gibson had the ball and handpassed to Guerra, as he was being approached by Tarrant. As Guerra took possession of the ball, he braced for contact, which was not unreasonable or unnecessary in the circumstances.
