The AFL advises the Match Review of last night’s Western Bulldogs v Carlton match in Round Six has been completed. No charges have been laid with one matter that required explanation.
Incidents assessed:
Contact between the Western Bulldogs’ Bailey Williams and Carlton’s Zac Fisher from the first quarter of Friday’s game was assessed. Williams tackles Fisher up under his arms and takes him to ground. A free kick was paid at the time to the Carlton player for a dangerous tackle. After viewing all available video and receiving a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, it was the view of the Match Review Officer that a free kick was correctly paid by the umpire at the time for the manner in which the Bulldogs’ player took his opponent to ground as Fisher attempted to handball. However, it was also his view there was not enough force in the tackle to constitute a charge being laid and the incident was dealt with on-field at the time by the umpire, with the decision for a free kick for a careless tackle. No further action was taken.
