SYDNEY backman Jeremy Laidler has retired after a 10-year career and will become a development coach at the club.
Laidler, 28, played 87 matches for Geelong, Carton and the Swans.
He was selected by the Cats with pick No. 32 in the 2007 rookie draft and played two games in three years before being traded to the Blues at the end of 2010.
The defender played 19 games in his first season at Carlton but just a combined five in the next two years, prompting a move to Sydney at the end of 2013 as a delisted free agent.
He lined up in 58 matches over the next three years, including last year's Grand Final loss to the Western Bulldogs.
Laidler managed just three games this season.
He told sydneyswans.com.au of his gratitude to the club.
"Coming into the AFL system, I wasn't sure if my career would last two years, so I feel really fortunate to have played for 10. Although it was a rollercoaster along the way, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at all three clubs," Laidler said.
"This year I did some work with the Sydney Swans Academy and I loved my time there, so to be given this opportunity by the Swans I am very grateful and excited by the challenge."
Football manager Tom Harley said Laidler was a welcome addition to the club's coaching panel.
"Jeremy has always displayed a tremendous work ethic and mature outlook, and we look forward to him continuing to work with our younger players," Harley said.
