CAMERON Pedersen has avoided the latest cut at Melbourne, signing a new one-year deal to remain at the club in 2016.
The 28-year-old played his 50th AFL game in round nine against Port Adelaide in Alice Springs, but after he broke his wrist against St Kilda in round 11 it was unclear whether his contract would be renewed.
However, football manager Josh Mahoney said Pedersen's versatility afforded the Demons options.
"Cam came in and played some good football for us in the role as a forward and ruck, before he got injured in round 11," Mahoney told the club's website.
"He's worked hard in his rehab and we're happy to offer him another opportunity for 2016."
Pedersen has now played 52 matches – 36 for Melbourne and 16 for North Melbourne.
He made his debut for the Kangaroos in round one 2011 and after two seasons with North, he was traded to the Demons in 2012.
Pedersen offers depth in the club's big man department, with the 193cm utility able to play up forward alongside Jesse Hogan and also pinch-hit in the ruck.
Melbourne announced last week that Jordie McKenzie, Aidan Riley, Rohan Bail and Jack Fitzpatrick have all been delisted.
