In the first game of the national carnival, Vic Country overcame a slow start to win 14.5 (89) to 11.8 (74) at Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham.
McCartin kicked the first goal of the game after a strong mark on the lead and finished with three majors, while Goddard kicked two and competed well throughout the contest.
The duo is among a handful of exciting key position prospects who are considered first-round draft prospects.
Angus Brayshaw was Metro's best player and underlined his standing as one of the best midfielders in the pool with 32 disposals and four clearances, while Rory Sheridan-Ferrie kicked four goals.
Darcy Tucker and Darcy Parish, too young for this year's draft, were two of Vic Country's best players in the win, gathering 21 disposals and 19 disposals respectively.
Caleb Marchbank impressed with 20 disposals, while Jordan Cunico showed some dash with 18 touches through the midfield and wings for Country, who did not win a division one game in 2013.
Lukas Webb used the ball well, 19-year-old Nathan Drummond gave some run and kicked two goals and, although Tom Lamb was quiet early, he kicked two important final-quarter goals to help his side over the line.
Although Vic Metro's tall forwards were considered a threat, Country's defenders restricted them to little influence.
Collingwood father-son prospect Darcy Moore had just six disposals and possible No.1 pick Peter Wright kicked two goals, but also spent some time in the ruck.
Sean McLaren battled hard in his duel with Goddard, while Jayden Laverde took the game on from half-back and was one of Metro's best players with 22 disposals, six marks and five rebound-50s.
Matt Goodyear (24 disposals) and Kyle Langford (21), two players on the radar of AFL clubs, also made solid contributions through the midfield.
Highly rated Metro forward Christian Petracca was rested for the clash.
Division one of the national carnival continues next weekend, when Western Australia travels to AAMI Stadium to take on South Australia.
Following the division one clash, the afternoon saw a trial match of players in the extended squads of both teams, with Brenton Payne leading Metro to a strong win.
Edward Vickers-Willis and Connor Menadue also played well for Metro, while Dylan Hodge, the younger brother of Hawthorn captain Luke, was among the best for Vic Country.
