AFL Statement

The AFL wishes to advise that Cameron Ling and Paul Kelly have been invited by the Geelong Cats and the Sydney Swans respectively to present the 2022 AFL Premiership Cup to the winning club.

Since 2004, the AFL has asked each club to nominate a representative to be on hand to present the Premiership Cup to the winning team.

The AFL is delighted that the Sydney Swans' champion Paul Kelly and Geelong Cats' champion Cameron Ling have accepted their respective club’s offer for this weekend's 2022 Toyota AFL Grand Final.

Geelong Cats – Cameron Ling. Ling played 246 games and kicked 139 goals for the Geelong Cats between 2000-2011. Ling was the captain for the Geelong Cats in their most-recent premiership in 2011. He was a triple-premiership winner and was named All-Australian in 2007. He also was awarded the Geelong Cats' Best and Fairest - the Carji Greeves Medal - in 2004. Ling was vice-captain of the Geelong Cats from 2006-2009 before taking over from the retiring Tom Harley as captain for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Ling represented Australia in the International Rules series in 2002.

Sydney Swans – Paul Kelly. Kelly played 234 games and kicked 200 goals for the Sydney Swans between 1990-2002. Kelly captained the team from 1993 up until his retirement. He was a three-time All-Australian, two-time AA captain, and won the Charles Brownlow medal in 1995. Kelly is a four-time club Best and Fairest, winning the Bob Skilton Medal in 1992, 1993, 1996, and 1997. When the Sydney Swans won their drought-breaking AFL Premiership in 2005, Kelly presented the Premiership Cup to Paul Roos and Barry Hall. Kelly has been inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame and was named Vice-Captain of the Sydney Swans' Team of the Century.
